Champaign Unit #4 School Board Chair Chris Kloeppel Endorses Mom Darlene Kloeppel for County Executive

URBANA, IL - Chris Kloeppel, who currently serves as the Chair of the Champaign Unit #4 School Board, officially announced his endorsement today for Democratic candidate for Champaign County Executive, Darlene Kloeppel.

The surprise is not that Mr. Kloeppel supports the candidate, who is his mother, but the reason why. Mr. Kloeppel said, “When people started looking for someone to run for County Executive, I just kept thinking my mom would be perfect for this job. She has all the skills and experience that the county needs for the issues facing it right now."

Darlene Kloeppel served as Director of Community Services for the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission for over 15 years, during which time she brought over $120 million into the county for services. She also has experience with corporate strategic planning and large facility projects. She holds advanced degrees in architecture, city planning and social work. She has been a county resident for over 20 years.

Ms. Kloeppel said, "The county has several difficult budget and facility issues that will require tough decisions. I would like to use my experience to move the county forward on these important issues as its first County Executive. And I’m especially thrilled that Chris is officially supporting me for this campaign.”

“I’m really enjoying watching my mom pick up the finer points of campaigning," Mr. Kloeppel said. “She’s doing a great job.”
