Around the County - April 2018

Just as spring is a season for planting and anticipating new growth so the campaign has redoubled our "planting" efforts through increased time spent canvassing while also anticipating growth over the summer as we plan several outreach and fundraising events.
Started working on the garden for the June 2nd garden Cocktail Party Fundraiser at my home. What a pleasure it was to get to know Tanisha King-Taylor better at her book event!
Prepping for various meetings around the County. This past month I participated in discussions on potholes, racial justice, gun violence, nursing home operations, wind farm regulations, jail re-entry services, career development for young people, and health care costs. Enjoyed attending the DisAbilities Expo and supporting all the agencies providing wonderful services to the County.
I had a great meeting with Larry Walsh, Will County Executive, about implementation of the new Executive position here in Champaign County. Lots of ideas and a little mentoring on strategies that work well to keep decisions moving. Looking forward to putting them in practice soon! Great surprise at Urbana Rotary today when I learned that Chris Scherer made it possible for several members to join the Paul Harris Fellows through his generous contributions to the Rotary Foundation- I was among them! Thanks, Chris!
I was so pleased to support the Champaign County Democratic Convention which featured party leaders who made a commitment to try a cooperative party governance strategy that seeks to build consensus! Enjoying the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new observatory of the Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society!
Spent a little time canvassing with some of my campaign team on this beautiful day! Here at Crestview Park with Urbana Rotary friends as we plant some trees as part of an international Rotary challenge for each member to plant a tree this year.
I joined fellow Democratic supporters for the last Friday Social at IBEW Local 601. It was a night filled with good energy and networking!
