Around the County - Oct 2017

The beautiful fall days made traveling around Champaign County a pleasure as I met with County residents going door-to-door and at many of the wonderful events held in Champaign County this month. Voters continue to express enthusiastic support for my campaign as I collect signatures. Many residents seem encouraged by the presence of several first-time and women candidates running for various elected positions (including my campaign for County Executive!). Don't forget to take a moment to Like or Follow my page on Facebook (#votedarlenekloeppel)!
Watching the Douglas Center Senior Style Show with County Board member Lorraine Cowart The Illini Country Stitchers Fall Quilt Show was a treat to the eyes!
I had an absolutely spectacular time at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) learning about the beginnings of Islam, Beethoven's music with the Jupiter String Quartet, and one of my favorite topics - why there are so many kinds of flowers! If you are over 50, check out this learning community. The Imbibe Urbana first Fridays offered a style show featuring local merchandise as well as different types of fun activities for kids at Lincoln Square.
Meet and Greet with Betsy Londrigan at the Champaign Public Library Spent some time folding clothes at the new Salt & Light Urbana location. I'm proud to be a part of this organization’s heart to fight poverty with dignity!
Organizer Bridget Broihahn (editor of At Home in Illinois) and I are here learning about women's health (physical, mental, financial) with other women at the Her Health event and having fun doing it. Thanks to the Illlini Dems for assisting me in obtaining signatures for my petition!
I'm excited to announce that my son Chris Kloeppel, who serves as the Champaign Unit #4 Board Chair, officially endorsed my campaign! Tammy Ogden, Deputy County Administrator for Finance, showed me the hard copy of the entire county budget (about three reams of paper!) after the County Board Meeting.
Here at the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet hosted by NAACP Champaign County with friends to celebrate the contributions of four citizens that have given much to make our community a better place to live - Tori Exum, Rev. Willie Comer, St. Luke CME, and Sharon Irish. At the dis-Abilities Art and Music Expo with Champaign County families enjoying some fun entertainment by our community's youth!
It was spectacular to look out over our County's farms while petition signature gathering in Philo! Enjoying good conversation with other Democratic candidates and supporters , including Senator Scott Bennett, at the Annual Fall Dinner at the I-Hotel.
Had the privilege to share about my campaign for County Executive at the Democratic Annual Fall Dinner.
